An Egyptian man was left in critical condition on his wedding day after being accidentally shot in the genitals during celebratory gunfire.

The 28-year-old man named Osman was enjoying his last night as an unmarried man and looking forward for married life when one of the guests shot him in the penis.

The groom was also struck in the thigh and hand and was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Egyptian police said: “He was taken to hospital in severe condition after he was hit by gunshots fired at a celebration held a day before his wedding”.

“As soon as we were notified of the incident, officers arrived at the scene and launched an investigation into the case.”

‘Initial interrogations revealed that a 26-year-old man who was attending the party, fired celebratory gunshots and accidentally hit the groom.”

They say the man who fired the shots fled soon after the incident but was later arrested and is now being questioned.

Although illegal, celebratory gunfire is seen as a tradition in many Arab and Middle Eastern countries.

Last month a 14-year-old boy was shot and killed during another wedding ceremony in the city of El Hamool in northern Egypt’s Kafr El Sheikh region.
